Duffy is proud to welcome Steven Lockwood as Senior Building Envelope Consultant in our Massachusetts office. With more than 25 years of experience experience, Steven brings additional capabilities to the firm in diagnosing building performance issues, developing practical repair solutions, and guiding projects from initial investigation through construction completion.
Steven Lockwood’s path into the building industry began long before college—back when he discovered a set of drafting compasses at his grandfather’s house. Curious about what they were used for, he brought them home and soon found himself paging through his uncle’s old drafting and mechanical books. By the time he reached high school, Steven was taking drafting courses and beginning to picture a future in the field.
Growing up in a blue-collar family surrounded by manufacturing and hands-on work, Steven naturally gravitated toward the technical side of the profession. While architecture initially drew his interest, he realized early on that design alone wasn’t what excited him. Instead, he was interested in how things actually came together—how buildings are constructed, and how a set of drawings turns into something real.
After earning his associate and bachelor’s degrees in Architectural Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Steven began his career in commercial millwork. As an Assistant Project Manager, he translated architectural designs into detailed fabrication drawings, often visiting job sites to field measure and coordinate installations. Because the company fabricated its own products, he spent a lot of time in the shop working alongside craftspeople and seeing firsthand how the pieces he drew were built and assembled.
Over the years, Steven’s career broadened to include surveying, civil site work, residential inspections, and ultimately building envelope consulting. In that role, he led renovation and repair projects across New England, conducting forensic investigations, preparing repair designs, and managing projects through construction. His work often began with a simple question—why is a building leaking or deteriorating—and evolved into a full investigation and repair plan.
Today, as a Senior Building Envelope Consultant at Duffy Engineering, Steven’s work blends design expertise with hands-on field investigation. His role spans the full lifecycle of a project, from diagnosing problems and developing repair strategies to producing construction documents, managing bids, and overseeing construction administration. With decades of experience across multiple sectors of the industry, he brings a wide range of technical knowledge to every project he touches.
What continues to motivate Steven is the puzzle-solving nature of the work. Each building presents its own challenges, and every investigation is slightly different. For him, the goal goes beyond simply fixing a problem—it’s about protecting the long-term health, safety, and durability of the structures people depend on every day.
That perspective also carries into his involvement in the professional community. Steven serves on the Board of Directors for the New England Chapter of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), where he contributes to advancing knowledge and collaboration within the building restoration field.
Outside of work, Steven enjoys stepping away from the built environment and spending time in nature. Camping and time in the woods provide a chance to recharge and disconnect from the pace of everyday life.
