Kevin Buckley’s career has always centered on buildings, but the way he looks at them has changed over time. He studied architecture at Roger Williams University, initially drawn to the profession because it combined two of his interests: creativity and practicality. To Kevin, architecture represented the ultimate form of art—something people don’t simply admire but experience every day. Early in his career, he focused primarily on design before discovering building envelope consulting, a specialty that quickly became his passion.
Over nearly two decades, Kevin has built experience across architecture, design, and project management. That background allows him to approach projects from multiple perspectives, understanding not only how buildings are designed, but how they perform over time. Throughout his career, Kevin has found that technical expertise is only part of the job. As his responsibilities evolved from drafting and design into project management and the building envelope, he developed a new appreciation for communication, collaboration, and relationship building. Managing clients, coordinating consultants, overseeing budgets, and working with contractors have become just as important as understanding the building itself.
Kevin has contributed to projects across higher education, healthcare, commercial, and historic properties. For Kevin, the most rewarding part of the job is problem solving. Every project presents a different set of conditions, building systems, and stakeholders. One day may involve investigating a roof or façade issue, while another is spent coordinating with consultants or reviewing construction progress. He enjoys translating technical issues into clear, practical options that help owners make informed decisions based on their goals, budgets, and long-term needs.
He particularly enjoys working on college and university campuses, where each building presents its own history, purpose, and challenges. Having the opportunity to return to the same campuses for future projects is especially rewarding, reflecting the trust built with clients over time.
Today, as a Building Envelope Consultant with Duffy, Kevin works from the firm’s Arlington, Massachusetts office, supporting projects throughout the Boston area. His work includes building envelope investigations, condition assessments, restoration projects, commissioning services, and collaborating with owners, architects, contractors, and project teams to develop practical solutions for complex building challenges.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, especially outdoors. Whether swimming, biking, playing sports with his children, or heading to the beach, he values opportunities to stay active and make the most of New England’s outdoor spaces.
